Slowing Down - Episode 163
Today’s story is called Slowing Down and it is about what happens when we live as if there is nothing to prove.
Sharing Stories
Hi there. My name is Terces and I want to take a moment and welcome you to the Unreasonably Grateful podcast.
Every week I mention that some of you have been with me for a while now, and I so appreciate sharing my journey with you and you sharing your journey with me. And then some of you are new. So welcome. It's great to have you.
Just a reminder that I don't have your answers, you do. But sometimes when we listen to someone else's story, it's just easier for us to see something about ourselves, about our own life, and our own journey.
Oftentimes in seeing ourselves in perhaps a new way, it gives us a little bit more freedom. It gives us some power and making new choices and creating new pathways. Neuropathways that allow us to behave differently and perhaps open us up to living the life that we're actually more committed to and living free from some of our past. So. Welcome. It's great to have you.
Getting Connected
We're still in a series where I'm reading stories from my recently released book also called Unreasonably Grateful, Living in Grace by choice. However, last week I took a break from that. And I shared with you an offering that I am making which is available on my website tercesengelhart.com.
I want to thank those of you who signed up for a session. It's always an honor to sit with you. To draw a little bit closer to get to know you more personally. And also just to share with you how beautiful, powerful, compassionate, and amazing you are.
It's my goal to share that in a way that may give you some freedom from any story you may have about yourself. Any story that's probably old and outdated that you have about yourself that may be actually inhibiting you in your life.
So thank you for that. It's been wonderful. If you're interested in working with me, you can go to my website. It's a donation basis session and I only offer a few each week. It's been so rewarding and I'm so grateful.
Unreasonably Grateful
Okay, so today's story is called "Slowing Down". It's something that's not that easy for any of us. It's actually kind of an act of rebellion in these times of so much speed. Everything's instant these days, whether it's a text message, or even email seems slow now, where it used to seem really quick.
I remember when I had this experience that I am reading about today. I was driving on Fwy 280 in an old 53 Chevrolet pickup that I'd purchased because I could afford it, and it was kind of cool because the cool cars were outside of my ability to purchase before that time.
So the year that I'm attributing to this is 1998, and this story is on page 42 of my book if you're following along. And it's chapter 23.
Slowing Down
So I was driving along the freeway and traffic was moving quickly in both directions when suddenly, I had a thought, "What if there was nowhere to get to and nothing to prove?" How different life would be!
I seem to be in such a hurry, always running behind trying to make it or arrive "on time" somewhere. What if we have it all backward, trying so hard to do something rather than focusing on who we are being? What if that is a great question?
So the question at the bottom of this page says, "What difference would it make if you actually had nothing to prove and nowhere to get to?" What would that be like for you? You know?
My husband is always moving quickly from one thing to the next. And even moving up here to Idaho recently, I've realized how valuable and important it is to just be present with what I'm doing and not even thinking ahead to like what comes next but just to be here, To be right here right now.
Be Here Now
So think about that, look and see how often do you feel like you're hurrying from one thing to the next rather than just sinking into this moment. The one that we're in. This moment right here, right now, the one that you and I are sharing.
Can we just pick a breath and be here, be here together even if it's for a moment instead of always trying to get somewhere else? And what if you didn't have anything to prove? What if you were already amazing miraculous talented creative, beautiful, and compassionate?
So this week take that on, answer that question on a daily basis, and see if you can't see the value in just slowing down a bit and staying really present and just appreciating this moment. The one right here, right now.
Let go. One of the things you'll notice is you have a lot more time. Have a beautiful week, and I'll see you next week and thank you again for sharing your journey with me.
